"Faith, Family and Friends...oh coffee and donuts too"
Aloha. and mahalo for visiting our site. Who is Aloha Moe? Moe is a nickname that I was given year's ago at one of my first job's and it just stuck. Made sense for me to use it when creating Aloha Moe's. I was born in Kailua, Hawaii but lived most of my life in California. I was never a trained chef or cook in the traditional sense, but learned from my mom, dad, sister and other ohana throughout the year's. Food has always been the center piece of gatherings for our family and friends. This drove my passion to want to share my food.
You'll find our menu is a mixture of many cultures as Hawaii became the melting pot of many immigrants from all over the world. I'm blessed to share my passion with you and hope you come to enjoy as so many others have.
=Aloha Moe
Origins of the plate lunch...
The origins of the plate lunch can be traced back to the plantation era in Hawaii, when workers from various parts of the world, including China, Japan, the Philippines, Korea, and Portugal, were brought to Hawaii to work on sugar and pineapple plantations.
These workers brought their own culinary traditions with them, and over time, these diverse influences blended to create a unique Hawaiian cuisine. Workers would often bring lunches that consisted of rice and meat or fish, which they would share with one another. As a result, the idea of a meal centered around rice, protein, and side dishes became a staple.
The modern plate lunch typically consists of white rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and a main protein such as chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, or kalua pork. The dish gained popularity in the mid-20th century and is now a beloved and ubiquitous part of Hawaiian cuisine.
